Driving a van isn't
difficult, but it's not the same as driving a
car so take note of the following tips:
Hire the Right Size Van
If you have not used a van before it is easy
to under or over-estimate the size you require.
The most sensible solution is to ask. Tell the
van hire company what you intend to carry and
how much you are carrying. They are pretty experienced
and can give you the best advice.
- Before You Set-Off
- Double-check that your rear
and side cargo door is securely locked
- Adjust
your mirrors
- Make sure everything inside is
securely held in place and will not slide
around when you take your first corner
On the Road
- Vans are higher than cars so note clearance
signs in restricted access areas
- If you have hired a large van give yourself
plenty of room when passing parked cars and
turning. You must also observe any restrictive
signs for lane use and parking for commercial
vehicles
- Be considerate to car drivers your van may
block their line of site so signal and maneuver
in plenty of time
